Urology

Urology involves the diagnosis and treatment of problems of the bladder, prostate, kidneys and urinary tract. Doctors in this specialty are surgeons called urologists.

Urinary and sexual problems can cause emotional as well as physical distress. Fortunately, many medical and surgical treatments are available that can help relieve and manage these health conditions.

Prostate Exam & Treatment

An internal examination of the rectum such as by a physician or other healthcare professional. If an abnormality is discovered the provider will work closely with the patient to develop a treatment plan.

Bladder Screening

Screening is looking for cancer before a person has any symptoms. This can help find cancer at an early stage. When abnormal tissue or cancer is found early, it may be easier to treat. By the time symptoms appear, cancer may have begun to spread.

Vasectomy

A surgical procedure for male sterilization and/or permanent birth control. During the procedure, the male vasa deferentia are severed and then tied/sealed in a manner so as to prevent sperm from entering into the seminal stream (ejaculate) and thereby prevent fertilization from occurring.

Kidney Stones

River Valley Physicians Urology office employs two methods to treat kidney stones.

Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) uses shock waves to break a kidney stone into small pieces that can more easily travel through the urinary tract camera.gif and pass from the body.

Holmium laser lithotripsy provides many patient benefits, including immediate relief of symptoms and a quick recovery. Laser lithotripsy uses a flexible laser fiber inserted into a scope through the urethra to the stone located in the bladder, ureter or kidney. When the laser is activated, the laser beam breaks up the stone into smaller sizes capable of being passed. No incisions are necessary and general anesthesia keeps the patient comfortable.

Chronic Urinary Tract Infections

Chronic urinary tract infections (UTIs) are infections of the urinary tract that do not respond to treatment. They may either continue to affect your urinary tract despite getting the right treatment, or may recur after treatment.

Urinary Retention Treatment

There are several treatment options for urinary retention and bladder problems. If your life has been disrupted by bladder problems, River Valley Physicians is going to help you gain back control.
